Some people think complex problems need complicated solutions.

We disagree.

At SEMS Lab, we believe complex problems need clearer thinking; not more data, not more formulas, but the ability to see the system behind the problem. That is what we build in our assistant induction program.

 

Over two semesters, new SEMS Lab assistants of 2026 do not just learn about the lab. They learn how to see problems that do not have names yet. How to design solutions that hold when the system pushes back. How to make an argument that cannot be ignored.

We call it: Foundations. Identity. Agency.
A strong intellectual foundation. An identity as a SEMSonian. And the confidence to drive change, as change agents, on campus, in industry, wherever they stand.
This is not a standard orientation program.
This is where a different way of thinking begins.
