The Systems Engineering Modeling and Simulation (SEMS) Laboratory was honored to participate in Jakarta Innovation Days (JID) 2025. Held from October 21–25 in the vibrant Dukuh Atas district, this premier urban transformation event focused on the “15-Minute City” concept—exploring how smart technology and sustainable design can create a more accessible, resilient, and livable Jakarta. As a collaborative hub organized by the Jakarta Provincial Government, JID 2025 unites over 100 partners—including academics, creative entrepreneurs, and government units—to showcase groundbreaking solutions in environmental health, digital governance, and resilient urban planning. From the Rector’s Summit to immersive Innovation Booths and the Jakarta Innovation Awards, the festival serves as an open invitation for the public to explore, connect, and impact the future of Jakarta as a globally competitive, livable metropolis.
Bridging Innovation and Education
As a collaborative hub organized by the Jakarta Provincial Government, JID 2025 provided a dynamic stage for SEMS to demonstrate how Serious Simulation Games (SSGs) can solve complex urban and industrial challenges. Invited as a strategic partner by the Center for Regional Productivity Development (P3D), our participation underscored the growing recognition of SSGs as vital instruments for modern capacity-building and decision-making.
Our SSGs, co-created with P3D, blend sophisticated game mechanics with rigorous learning objectives. These tools allow participants to navigate complex systems and test strategies within a high-fidelity simulated environment.
The Power of Serious Simulation Games (SSGs)
At the SEMS Lab, we believe that the most effective way to understand a complex system is to interact with it. SSGs represent a shift from passive observation to active discovery, offering three critical advantages in knowledge transfer:

Risk-Free Experimentation: Participants can test high-stakes decisions—such as urban resource allocation or supply chain shifts—in a safe environment where “failure” is a valuable learning data point rather than a costly real-world error.

Mastery of Systems Thinking: Unlike traditional lectures, games allow players to see the immediate and long-term feedback loops of their actions, building an intuitive understanding of how individual parts impact the whole.

Impact and Engagement
Beyond the static exhibition, SEMS hosted interactive play sessions that brought these systems to life. The response was overwhelming: over 300 visitors engaged with our booth across the five-day event.
The diversity of the crowd—ranging from high-level institutional representatives and industry professionals to enthusiastic high school students—affirmed that simulation-based learning resonates across all generations. Throughout the event, several key themes emerged: strong demand for custom game development for specific institutions, interest in direct procurement of tools for internal training, and high numbers of inquiries about P3D’s specialized programs powered by SEMS models.
